Man rescued from submerged vehicle in Albany, Ore.; was breathing bubble of trapped air
By The Associated Press
ALBANY, Ore. (AP) ' Authorities rescued a man from a car submerged in high water near two storm-fed rivers in Albany, Ore.
An Albany fire division chief says the man stayed alive Thursday afternoon by breathing from a six-inch air bubble trapped near the vehicle's roof, the only visible part of the car.
He was taken to a hospital, but details on his condition weren't released. The Democrat Herald described the man as elderly. He was alone in the vehicle.
It took about 25 minutes for crews to rescue the man. The fire official didn't know how long the driver had been in the water.
The vehicle had floated about 400 feet away from Bryant Way, which dips and rises as it passes through low-lying farmland that's still flooded from recent heavy rains.
